Alloy 6005 aluminum bar has properties between those of alloys 6061 and 6082 and can sometimes be used interchangeably with these alloys, but 6005 has better extrusion characteristics and a better mill surface finish. Aluminium alloy 6005A is a medium strength, heat treatable alloy with excellent corrosion resistance.
Description
6005 aluminum bar or aluminum rod belongs to Al-Mg series anti-rust aluminum and has good corrosion resistance, weldability and cold workability.
Similar to 5182 aluminum rod, but with slightly higher magnesium content and a small amount of silicon added, so the welding performance is better. It cannot be strengthened by heat treatment, but it still has good plasticity when semi-cold work hardening.
6005 aluminum bar has medium strength and high plasticity, and is especially suitable for occasions requiring high plasticity and good weldability. Its fatigue strength is high, and its plasticity decreases during cold work hardening.
6005 6005A performance lies between 6061 and 6082, and they can be used interchangeably with 6005A.
The strength and machinability of 6005-T5 are equivalent to those of 6061-T6 and superior to 6063-T6. Moreover, 6005 6005A exhibit better extrusion characteristics and smoother milling surfaces.
